CBS is secretly planning a Big Bang Theory spinoff that would focus on the younger years of Sheldon Cooper, the character made famous by Jim Parsons, according to EW. The network is considering Iain Armitage to play the role of young Sheldon, while Zoe Perry is in talks to portray Sheldon's mother.
Laurie Metcalf, who portrayed the character in the flagship series, received an Emmy nomination for her performance. Interestingly, Perry is Metcalf's real-life daughter. The Untitled Sheldon Project has not yet been confirmed, but if it moves forward, Parsons will serve as executive producer alongside the show's current producers.
The Big Bang Theory is currently in its 10th season and remains the top comedy in primetime. CBS is also considering a two-season renewal for the show, pending contract negotiations with the cast. The Big Bang Theory airs on Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET.
