Fans are itching for a taste of the Four Sixes, but the future of the highly anticipated spin-off hangs in the balance.
Giddy up, “Yellowstone” fans, because we’ve got some good news and some not-so-good news. Remember that heart-stopping Season 4 finale of "Yellowstone," where Jimmy traded the drama of the Dutton ranch for the rugged beauty of the Four Sixes? Remember how excited we all were about the promised spin-off, “6666,” that would delve deeper into the legendary Texas ranch?
Yeah, well…about that.
While the “Yellowstone” universe continues to expand with prequels like “1883” and “1923,” the fate of “6666” remains uncertain. Taylor Sheridan, the mastermind behind the wildly popular franchise, confirmed in a recent interview that the spin-off is on indefinite hold.
"That show, for a number of reasons, needs a unique level of special care because this is a real place with real families working here," Sheridan explained, emphasizing the responsibility he feels towards accurately portraying the history and legacy of the Four Sixes Ranch.
"You have to respect the lineage,” he added. “I've told [the studio] to be patient."
Despite the lack of a release date (and the fact that production is currently in limbo), here’s what we’ve managed to piece together about the highly anticipated spin-off:
The Premise: "6666" promises to transport viewers to the sprawling plains of Texas, where the drama unfolds against the backdrop of a working ranch steeped in history and tradition. Expect gritty cowboys, high-stakes cattle drives, and the kind of rugged individualism that made the West legendary.
The Cast: While no official cast list has been released, many fans are hoping to see Jefferson White reprise his role as Jimmy, along with Kathryn Kelly as his love interest, Emily. The two characters were last seen riding off into the Texas sunset (literally) in the Season 5 midseason finale of “Yellowstone,” leaving the door wide open for their return.
The Legend: The Four Sixes Ranch isn’t just a fictional setting; it’s a real-life Texas institution with a history as vast and storied as the land itself. Founded in 1900 by Samuel Burnett, the ranch spans over 450,000 acres and is known for its world-class horses, cattle, and, of course, cowboys.
So, will “6666” ever see the light of day? Your guess is as good as ours.
Between the ongoing actors' and writers’ strikes in Hollywood and Sheridan’s insistence on getting the story just right, it seems like a long shot that we’ll be venturing to the Four Sixes anytime soon.
But hey, a “Yellowstone” fan can dream, can’t they? In the meantime, we’ll be brushing up on our Texas trivia, practicing our lasso skills, and patiently (or not so patiently) awaiting any scrap of news about the future of “6666.”
