Shannon Lee, daughter of Bruce Lee, has spoken out about Quentin Tarantino's portrayal of her father in the film Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. In the movie, released in 2019, a scene depicts Brad Pitt's character getting into a fight with Bruce Lee, portraying him as cocky and arrogant. Shannon Lee expressed her displeasure about the portrayal at the time and revealed in a recent interview with The Telegraph that she still hasn't spoken to Tarantino since the controversy. She believes the portrayal may have come from skewed stories that the director had been told. Shannon Lee discussed how her father was perceived as "overly confident or arrogant" by some, particularly by white men. Tarantino defended his depiction, stating that Bruce Lee was "kind of an arrogant guy" and claimed that he had heard him say similar things in real life. He also emphasized that the scene was fictional and not meant to be a realistic representation of Bruce Lee. The criticism of Tarantino's portrayal of Bruce Lee had come from others who knew Lee as well as his fans. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood can currently be streamed on Starz.
