Liverpool has requested for their opening match of next season to be played away from home to give more time for preparations on their new Anfield Road stand. The £80 million redevelopment, which began in September 2021, will add approximately 7,000 extra seats, taking the ground's overall capacity to over 61,000. Liverpool made a similar request to the Premier League when they completed their Main Stand in 2016.
Vice-president of stadium operations Paul Cuttill said that they are on track and on budget, with the progress going well. They aim to complete the work by the end of July and be ready for the first home game of the 2023-24 season.
