Emilia Clarke’s rise to fame as Daenerys Targaryen in Game of Thrones is well-known, but behind the scenes, she faced life-threatening health challenges that almost ended her career and life prematurely. Clarke’s journey was fraught with peril, much like her on-screen character’s, but her battle was fought away from the public eye, making her story all the more compelling.
In 2011, after filming the first season of Game of Thrones, Clarke experienced a severe headache while working out at a gym. The pain was unlike anything she had ever felt before, and it soon became clear that this was not an ordinary headache. Clarke was diagnosed with a subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), a form of stroke caused by bleeding around the brain.
This condition is often fatal, and Clarke required immediate surgery to save her life. The operation was successful, but it was just the beginning of her medical saga.
Following her first aneurysm, Clarke kept her condition private, determined to continue her work on the show.
