Julius Maddox, a powerlifter, shared his journey to fitness in an interview with Men's Health. He started working out in 2012 after being released from prison. Fitness helped him combat depression and cope with the challenges he faced. Throughout his career, Maddox has often been the only person who looks like him in many rooms. In the beginning, he struggled to get help and learn proper technique, but now he has become a prominent figure in the industry. He uses social media as a tool for recording his progress and connecting with his followers. As a person of color, Maddox acknowledges the challenges in the industry, especially in terms of business ownership and representation. To address this, he collaborates with others and has started a nonprofit called Sonz of a Beast to help the youth and individuals in the prison system. Maddox believes that positivity and focusing on one's own progression are key to success as a powerlifter.
